Pretty by Nature Brazilian Jewelry Designer Daniela Zagnolli

Every designer needs inspiration because it is only the inspiration that really gives the needed push. And it is only then the ideas that linger in the inner realms take a final form. While some take inspiration from other designer collections on the other hand some have their own way of taking inspiration from the surrounding no matter wherever they are. So it is now clear that inspiration can be from anything. However what needs to be remembered is the fact that majority of designers take their inspiration from nature which is naturally the first and best teacher. It sounds surprising that there are designers whose only inspiration from nature. They are enough of them who find inspiration in elements of nature namely wind, sunshine, water and earth for instance. They study the underlying pattern and reflect the same thing in their designs. Even the colors motivate to a great extent for instance there are some designers who closely follow the nature and reflect the color and texture in their works. So it is needless to say that for scores of designers the main source of idea is nature apart from many things. Daniela Zagnolli is inspired by the beauty of nature, its living creatures, and their unique shapes. I chatted with the Brazilian jewelry designer who launched her line earlier this year via email. Her designs are the perfect accent for your spring/summer wardrobe, and Daniela is offering Everything She Wants readers a 20 percent discount on her fab fashion accessories like Necklaces for women and Faux Fur Handbags, bracelets and cuffs for Women etc,. ESW: Do you think being a Brazilian designer makes your jewelry stand out?

People associate Brazilian women's fashion jewelry with quality and precious stones, leather, and other organic materials. The rich mixture of Brazilian culture, the beautiful Brazilian landscape, and the happiness of the Brazilian people come to life in Brazilian jewelry, which helps set it apart from other jewelry in the marketplace. Again its not that the contemporary style is ignored it is equally given the importance. However as already mentioned the emphasis is more on blending culture and reflecting the new age aspirations. A style traces its origin in its culture and culture traces is origin the people, values, beliefs, nature and many things besides. So it’s quite evident that culture plays an important role in influencing style and many things besides.

ESW: How do women's fashion accessories and fashion styles differ in Brazil?

Currently there are more similarities than there are differences between American and Brazilian fashion trends. There are differences but also there is deep respect for cross cultures and this is what is really inspiring new things. They are both experimenting with a mixture of innovative styles using new exotic materials, and at the same time there is a retro movement with a nostalgia for styles from the past. When we juxtapose to trends one the old and one the contemporary one will understand that the trends are nothing but an amalgamation of old style taking a new form and this is what is quite interesting. Every style deeply reflects some part of culture aspects and this is quite evident from Brazilian jewelry.

ESW: What materials do you use?

It needs to be understood that the usage of the materials greatly depends on the kind of design one is looking for. Although every time there is a design we use a variety of organic materials and semi precious stones. However our current line is mostly made up of natural cowhide adorned with Swarovski crystals and gold plated brass.

She also brings out her exotic and vibrant essence of her homeland in her collections. So recently, we got a chance to chat with Daniela Zagnolli about her background, style, struggle and upcoming collection.

1. Where are you from & did that inspire your sense of style?

I’m from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. And yes being Brazilian has had big impact on my style. Brazilians are very open to innovative ideas, which make us very creative and outgoing. 60 percent of Brazil's population is under the age of 29, Brazil's shoppers are young, vibrant and modern – qualities that are reflected in the designs.

2. At what age, did you decide you want to be a designer?

36 years old.

3. How did you get started in the Fashion Industry?

I had a modeling agency in Brazil when I was 19 years and worked there for several years. After moving to New York, I started importing home decor and fashion accessories from Brazil, including jewelry, to wholesale into the United States. I realized that people loved the exotic Brazilian style, especially for the jewelry and fashion accessories, necklaces for women, so I decided to design my own collection, which was created last year, 2010.

4. What year did you launch your jewelry/accessories line and what was the FIRST piecing you created for your line?

I launched my first collection last winter, the 2010 winter, and my first created design was the "Butterfly Cuff".

5.Who what inspire your creations?

I draw my inspiration from the exotic influences of Brazil. In fact each of my work is a pure reflection of Brazilian culture and I feel great about it. While I equally draw my inspiration from other sources but it’s the culture that gives me the needed inspiration when I am in great need of it. And each time I drew my inspiration it never failed it excite me and I think this really keeps me going more than anything, so what more is actually needed.

6. What type of woman does your line express? (Fun, working, classic...)

Strong, modern and independent women.

7. Which designers do you draw inspiration from?

Christian Dior, Hermes, Givenchy and some Brazilian designers.

8.What piece from your line are you MOST proud of and why?

My first piece, the Butterfly Cuff.

9.What is the most challenging aspect of the business you are in?

The most challenging aspect of my business was to find and keep a great production team. It has always been a great experience to work with my production team. They have been of constant support to me. And I derive great satisfaction working with them because I feel they have been a part of the growth story and I get overwhelming encouragement from them.

10.What is your advice to up and coming designers?

Never give up and always believe in and love what you do.

11.What should we expect this Fall from your line?

I expanded upon the bold cuffs from my Spring Collection and added a slightly more feminine accent with soft laser cut detailing of the leather. It's all about love cuff this season, don't be afraid to be bold this winter.
